Plant-based bioproduction
Exploiting the full potential of plants to make them a simple, robust bioproduction platform with a low environmental footprint.
From plants to product
- Molecular engineering to design the protein or metabolite that will provide the best response to the targeted need.
- An ideal plant for bioproduction. Non-food and not for agricultural use, N. benthamiana grows quickly, can be grown without pesticides and is ready to produce in just 30 days.
- Optimized growing conditions to maximize the potential of each plant as a bioproduction unit.
- A transient expression technology that allows for rapid and highly productive production, in a safe working environment, without maintaining transgenic plants, without handling live viruses.
- Tailor-made extraction and purification processes, based on product properties and industry standards.
- Vertical cultivation facilities and controlled and automated environment for a reproducible bioproduction model, guaranteeing consistent quality that can be deployed anywhere in the world and with significant advantages on the environmental footprint.
Molecular engineering
- Targeted engineering using various modeling tools
- High-throughput screening platform to test and validate a large number of candidates in parallel.
- Ability to adapt expression levels according to the required yields thanks to multiple molecular tools.
- Ability to express multiple proteins simultaneously and thus provide the ability to recreate entire metabolic pathways and product combinations unique to plants.
Model plant
The plant used by Aramis, N. benthamiana, is a world reference in plant bioproduction thanks to a unique combination of assets. The laboratory variety known as “LAB” is the most widely used in bioproduction and has been since the 1990s. It is particularly well suited to the infiltration process, which allows for rapid transient expression and high yields. It also benefits from advanced genetic tools and an already well-established industrial ecosystem.
At Aramis, it is produced exclusively in a controlled environment and grown without pesticides. N. benthamiana is neither a field crop nor a food plant. The molecules are expressed in its leaves transiently for only six days, without maintenance of transgenic lines.
The plant-based bioproduction carried out by Aramis therefore does not present any risk of cross-contamination with the food chain and does not compete with agriculture; on the contrary, it opens up new outlets with high added value.
